Japanese supercomputing budget cuts

Via HPCwire, I've noticed the not unexpected news that the Japanese government are slashing the budget for the Next Generation Supercomputer Project at Riken on the grounds that it's a waste of money.

It doesn't sound like there are many reasons to be cheerful about the future of Japanese supercomputing...
