Shoe shopping

Having done something bad to my feet — I think I laced one of my shoes too tightly last week, then spent way too much time walking on it so that it went all bruised and nasty — I spent this afternoon wandering around town looking for a new pair of sandals. Although I eventually met with success, I struggled somewhat to find any in my size and I thought for a while that I was going to have to settle for a pair of children's shoes.

how on earth do you lace your shoes too tightly? Shouldn't the pain tell you something is wrong?

I'm not quite sure how it happened. I think I laced it too tight and it started to pinch, but because I was busy I didn't have time to deal with it so I just left it, then when I did find time to deal, the damage had been done.

It's also possible that I once again fell victim to my almost terminal lack of observational awareness...
