To Nidri first thing to use the supermarket, for pater to go to the chandlers, and to catch up with Pete. Pete was full of useful advise about the absolute cheapest places to go for stuff, although I got the distinct impression that pater was planning to ignore most of it — I don't think he thinks it's a good idea to get all the work done by boat bums. Mater, on the other hand, was supremely grateful to Pete for introducing her to a new laundry and now she can think of nothing but clothes washing.

Left Nidri just after lunch and headed round the corner to Sivota. Not a long sail, but quite a fun one. The boat sails really well — far, far better than the light-weight Sun Odyssey etc we've chartered in the past. I suppose it's just a question of balance: even though it's a heavy boat, it's got a lot more canvas than most (especially those poor fools with roller mains) and it's supremely well designed for sailing.

We tied up next to an English couple who'd bought their own boat through one of the flotilla companies. The basic deal seems to be that you pay over the money for the boat to the flotilla firm, you get six weeks a year of sailing (but not in high season), a certain amount of guaranteed income and then after a certain number of years, usually five, you get full title to the boat. Sounds a bit of an odd proposition to me: you pay full price for a boat, don't get to use it full time, get to have it knocked around by flotilla sailors for years, whilst still holding the depreciation hosts. Sure, you get the maintenance and over-wintering paid for, but I'm still not convinced. After all, if it's such a great a deal, why aren't the flotilla companies doing it themselves?

Had dinner at a taverna listed in the rough guide. It was pretty good, but veggie options weren't all that great — probably my fault for not scrutinising the menu in sufficient detail. We then went on to the charming Family Cafe (a great favourite of my sister's) for ice cream and classic 80s pop, before heading to bed.
