Like a busy train station...
Jan. 24th, 2014 07:45 pmAfter a busy morning tracking down bugs and adding long-desired new features to my disc space monitoring tools — a task made somewhat harder by an obi-wan error in one of the accumulating arrays — I decided that the office was far too cold & noisy and I wasn't going to get much more done if I hung around, so I left at around one to pick up things for lunch on my way home. I felt a bit bad about bailing, despite working long days every day except yesterday, but in the end I had no grounds for feeling bad: in the peace, warmth, and quiet of my place, I put on the radio and settled down to an extremely productive afternoon.
Thinking about it, I'm not all that surprised.
Away from the constant background noise of the office — it's like working in a busy train station or airport departure lounge, with constant loud background chatter and people walking around the whole time — I find that I can actually concentrate on what I'm doing and my productivity improves massively. Although I didn't like Bracknell itself much, it's hard not to feel as though my productivity took a nose dive when we left our quite office behind for the horrors of open plan...
