Surprisingly busy for the sabbath...
Feb. 9th, 2014 09:40 pmBusy, busy day one way and another. Started with a very windy run — the tail end of the latest storm had yet to blow through — which made the whole thing a bit of slog. Luckily the rain held off for most of it, but the last mile or so was utterly cold & miserable. Thank goodness for warm flats and hot showers.
The rest of the morning was spent making lunch, which sounds far grander than it actually was. Having decided to give Felicity Cloake's perfect soda bread a try, I was pleased to find that it was a total breeze — mix the dry ingredients, add the milk & treacle & honey, mix, and bake for 50 minutes — and the results were deeply delicious.
The afternoon was given over to what was supposed to be a short bouldering session but which turned into a long one. I ticked off a few new problems early on and then spent a lot of time trying to polish a roof route I'd just completed. A few of the usual Sunday people were in and everyone was very chatty, so instead of leaving I stayed for the best part of three hours and plugged away at things. I had a good time and more than offset the boredom of being stuck inside yesterday, but now my poor hands and feet feel very blistered and beaten up. Let's hope I get a break of a few days before I have to climb again...
