Thursday routes
Sep. 28th, 2017 09:38 pmWith Thursday now established as one of our regular climbing days, I met up with A and we powered through a bunch of stuff, gradually trying harder things. With some encouragement, I tried a fluro orange 6c on the edge of the new slab which I'd been avoiding because everyone had warned me that it was hard for the grade. Rather to my surprise, it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected and I put the sequence together fairly quickly. I didn't manage a clean send, but I'm pretty confident I've got a beta for it and that I'll be able to do it when I'm fresh.
A motored up a bunch of routes and has reached the point where she's able to get up 6as. She may not be particularly elegant. She makes the classic beginner's mistake of climbing on her arms. And, although she's not that much taller than me, she's got longer arms and legs, so she can reach through moves where I need to get my feet set properly, which often throws her out of the sequence. But she's improving by epic leaps and bounds, and best of all, her enthusiasm has encouraged me to push myself that bit harder...
