Before they went to Vietnam, pater was worried that his Russian colleagues might not like the food. As it turns out, this wasn't a problem and they ate everything that wasn't nailed down. In fact, three of the alpha sociologists were so keen to try something unusual that they they went to a banquet at a snake farm, where every course was composed of some form of serpent or other. While the others contented themselves with this, Petr, being substantial, Siberian and completely unafraid, proved his masticatory mettle by eating a still beating snake's heart. There is only one word to sum up this sort of behaviour: grossamundo.

back in Jakarta in one of the markets we frequented there was a "Doctor" (maybe medicine man, or witch doctor are more appropriate phrases) that would kill and drain a snake into a cup. You would then consume the cup of snakes blood and have greater strength or virility or something...
