Not only does it provide yet more book storage space but all that paper, it's bound to provide some sort of thermal and sonic insulation or something, isn't it? I'm not convinced that it would work for anything other than paperbacks — I wouldn't want to have to try living my life with a few volumes of Absolute Sandman suspended over my head like some papery sword of Damocles — but storage is storage...
