Todays good deed? Explaining to an elderly relative how "number of bodies - can hesitate (11)" could possibly be "anaesthetic" Today's big question? If a lion could speak we would not be able to understand it — discuss. Today's book review? Steven Poole in The Guardian on Iain M. Banks' Matter, which he liked, despite some reservations. Today's discovery? That Marx, Marginalism and Modern Sociology is actually rather a lot better than my bad experiences with Keynesianism etc. had lead me to expect.

Where was that clue from? it's bad form not to indicate the anagram.

The clue was from the quick crossword in Saturday's Guardian — my grandmother had got stuck because she'd failed to spot the play on the word "number". As to the anagram indicator, I suspect that there was one but I probably forgot to transcribe it. My bad, rather than the Guardian's.

Have we uncovered evidence of the propagation of memes via morphic fields?

Unfortunately, no. We are just two geeks losing precious time reading
Wittgenstein instead of trying to have a real life.

Pah! There's no such thing as real life. We're living in a hyperreal age. Or at least, that's what I say as I cry myself to sleep each night, bitterly lamenting the day's many failures...

You are going to end up reading Virilio who manages the impossible
task to be more ridiculous than Baudrillard.

I'll have to give you a crash course in respectable french thinking.

I didn't think there were any respectable continental thinking post-Descartes...

We'll settle the dispute at the pub.

I feel ashamed of myself now.
I realised that I should stop villipending things I don't understand.
