Somewhat rashly, my aunt decided to spend Easter with her five year-old grandson in a cottage in Snowdonia. With no electricity. Clever.

Her initial plan had been to visit us on the way back from Wales. But, yesterday evening this was cast into doubt: the grandson had picked up a lurgi and they were in A&E getting it checked out. When, in late evening, the doctor concluded that it wasn't serious, the original plan was resurrected. However, this morning, being confronted with vast drifts of snow, she has decided that she has snowed in and that she is unlikely to be returning until tomorrow.

My grandmother, who was due to be returning to London with my aunt is now uncertain as to whether she should stay here for an extra day or go back on the coach. My cousin, who may or may not have been intending to visit today — no-one seems to be quite sure — is almost certainly not now coming but may come tomorrow instead. My sister, who had deliberately arranged to be working a late so as avoid the horrors of a family Easter lunch will, after all, be forced to endure.

All because of a few bits of frozen water...
