AIX jumpstart: day 1
Oct. 20th, 2008 09:21 pmNot a bad first day on the AIX jumpstart course, despite the start being delayed when the network equipement in the conference room malfunctioned. So far the course has covered: installing AIX; installing packages; device management; the basics of LVM; and a few bits and pieces about ODM. I don't think I've learnt anything I didn't already know, but it's been a useful refresher nonetheless.
ODM and SMIT aside, the whole OS reminds me very strongly of trad UNICOS, with its extremely restricted installation options, limited runlevels and bizarre ideas about daemon startup — SRC reminds me of nothing quite so much as a jazzed up version of Cray's
