I've had a reasonably good bank holiday, despite the nagging feeling that I'm either going down with, or an in the process of recovering from, some sort of mild lurgi. Not feeling ill enough to cry off, I still managed to go for a nice 10 mile run first thing and to fit in a bout of swimming in the afternoon.

In between, I spent most of the day catching up with reading for my thesis and listening to the radio. Particularly enjoyable was Ingrid Fliter's recital of Chopin and Schumann live from the Wigmore, despite a piano failure early on — the keys kept sticking — which required a break to allow the instrument to be replaced with the backup piano.

I even managed to find time to fit in a little bit of cooking, knocking up a batch of surprisingly good rocket pesto; an innovation necessitated by my complete inability to find fresh basil at the supermarket. Given the quantities I now have, it's just as well that it turned out to be edible because I have the distinct impression that I'm going to be living on little other than pasta and pesto until it's all gone...
