A sticky problem

Somehow, at some point in the past, we managed to mislay the sticky bits on the local /tmp file systems on all the silicon sarcophagi, making it possible for anyone to nuke the archive server pipes. How did we lose our stickiness? God knows, but since it would have been next to impossible to do accidentally, my money's on a duff script or patch that's probably still kicking around the system somewhere.
