Busoni's take on Bach's triple fugue
Feb. 11th, 2010 10:31 pmIt's been a difficult and tiring week. One has left me largely incapable of conscious thought. So, as filler, here's Busoni's shamelessly Romantic take on JS Bach's E-flat major fugue — one of my major musical obsessions — that closes Clavier-Übung III:
Taken a good deal faster and with less control, perhaps, than Nikolai Demidenko — my benchmark, who shamelessly stretches the phrases out to almost to the point breakage whilst still somehow making it all work — but quite pleasant nonetheless.
