The current political situation feels dismal. I have a nasty suspicion that the Lib-Dems are going to bottle it and accept an offer from Cameron without obtaining a firm commitment to electoral reform. And if they do that, they'll have missed the opportunity to wring anything decent about the current fiasco.

But I can also understand the LD position. They don't want to align with Labour for a couple of reasons: they don't want to taint themselves with the spirit of failure associated with the (still current) government; they don't want Brown as PM; and they won't be able to achieve a commons majority without the nationalists. And still. And still. I can't really understand how think they can reconcile their claims to be a progressive party with a possible Tory coalition.
