An unexpected catered meeting

sawylHaving found myself invited to an afternoon meeting less than quarter of a hour before it was due to start, I rushed off to the canteen, crammed down some food, and hurried back only to discover (a) that the actual start time was 20 minutes later than expected not least because (b) someone had managed to arrange for the meeting to be catered, so there were sandwiches and bits and pieces available. This last was a huge surprise to all the attendees, not least because, in the current straightened financial circumstances, all requests for refreshments during meetings must be personally approved by the CFO!
The meeting itself turned out to be surprisingly interesting and useful, although I'm not sure there was anything terribly groundbreaking. The tone of the presenter was so acerbic that, when I came to write up my notes from the meeting I ended up having to move most of the cynical comments out the main text, leaving me with a relatively short body padded out with lots of snarky little footnotes.
