Via my parents, I discover that my niece has done well in her GCSEs — she even managed to pass maths! She has one do-over, English language, but that hasn't been enough to stop the school offering her a place in the sixth form. I think she's planning to study sociology, philosophy, IT, and photography — a selection very much in line with established family traditions...
