A warm day in Wisconsin...
Feb. 24th, 2015 08:58 pmStill partly on UK time, I woke up this morning at half-three and spent a few hours pottering around on the Internet before going for a short swim in the small pool at around 6. Rather to my surprise the locals were complaining that the water temperature was much lower than usual; but it seemed perfectly fine to me.
On leaving the hotel, the shift in the weather became immediately apparent: cloudy with light snow and a temperature of -5 celcius, which felt positively tropical after yesterday. Once we arrived there was a brief but dramatic blizzard followed by sun and conditions that weren't much worse than the cold snap in the UK last Saturday!

Here's our much-loved Chevy Impala in the blizzard. We spent the entire week failing to close the doors correctly, struggling with the remote locking mechanism and failing to disable the voice message telling us to enable our OnStar trial every time G started the engine. A particular highlight occurred when the software shifted into voice dial mode and refused to recognise us when we attempted to tell it to stop — it eventually responded to my best cut-glass RP tones and we were spared the ignominy of accidentally calling random strangers from our over-clever car.
After doing the tour this morning we broke at midday and went over to the main factory for an all you can eat charity lunch for 5 dollars. I didn't have that much - the main dish was pulled pork made by the head of the data centre - but the non-veggies went back for huge second helpings, so it must've been good.
In the evening we escaped to the Rumor Mill, a pub which served pizzas, allowing me to craft a veggie option from the available choices of toppings. The things were huge and I ended up taking about half of it home with me, only to find that the box was bigger than my fridge!
