Has grid computing finally arrived?
Mar. 2nd, 2006 07:36 amI've noticed that someone has tacked up an article on grid computing and climate research in the coffee area, presumably because they liked the banner headline which announces the imminent death of supercomputing. Trouble is, some seriously smart people have been heralding grid computing as an up and coming killer app every year for the last decade without any real signs of it ever actually arriving.
Plus, are people going to want to contribute to climate change, SETI, whatever this week's distributed computing flavour of the month is, out of the goodness of their hearts when they realise that it might bump their electricity bill up by 300 quid a year?
