Rachmaninov's Nunc Dimittis
Dec. 14th, 2016 09:56 pmFollowing on from yesterday, today's choice has to be Rachmaninov's Нынѣ отпущаеши, which sets the words of Nunc dimittis and famously ends by taking the basses all the way down to a low B-flat.
Happily, I've been able to find the very recording I used to get to know the pieces: the St Petersburg Capella under Vladislav Chernushenko. I particularly like the entry of soloist Sergei Rokozitsa, especially the way he makes the tenor part float over the pianissimo chorus. Sublime.
