The Gabrieli Consort do Christmas
Dec. 23rd, 2016 06:06 pmVia this mornings Essential Classics, I've discovered the most Christmasy album of all time: the Gabrieli Consort's reconstruction of Lutheran service for Christmas morning featuring Michael Praetorius' Christmas Mass as its centrepiece.
The whole thing is a delight, from the great opening through an amazing setting of Puer natus in Bethlehem complete with dramatic congregational singing from the Choir of Roskilde Cathedral and big showy organ intervention, through to the recessional setting In dulci jubilo.
Best of all, it's available in all good music stores for the princely sum of six pounds!
