Interesting story about Cray consolidating their hardware platforms using clever software. I wonder how long it'll take them to get things right: the lessons from recent history indicate that it'll probably take them at least 12 months longer than planned...

Fools that they are. It's like when vendors talk about a new product, they'll promise the earth and then, when asked how they're actually going to do it, they'll cough, look embarrassed and mutter something about doing it all in software, all of which causes the customer to swallow down the whole thing without even bothering to check the most basic facts...
