Nine finger blues

I seem to have done something bad to one of my fingers. I suspect I probably manged to tear the nail yesterday, because that's when the pain started to kick in, but now it looks like it might also be infected: it's gone a horrible shade of scarlet and it's kinda painful when I do anything with it.

Normally I'd modify my typing style to try to work round the problem but, typically, it's my tabbing finger that's affected, so I'm being forced to fight against one of my hardest of hardwired reflexes. In the words of ET: ouch.
