Supercomputing pictures
Apr. 15th, 2006 11:11 amToday's Guardian Weekend magazine featured some of Simon Norfolk's photographs of supercomputers, but these don't seem to be available on line, so if you want to get a proper feel for them, you're going to have to get a dead tree copy.
The photos feature plenty of pictures of wires and cooling equipment — maybe I'm becoming cynical, but these days I tend to feel that once you've seen one large scale plumbing installation, you've seen them all. The best image, to me at least, was a really wonderful picture of the staggeringly beautiful MareNostrum computer room in Barcelona. It certainly puts the Menagerie's dank old Cray computer room in Bracknell to shame and doesn't exactly show the new comp room in the best light either...
