According to Simon Jenkins' article in today's Guardian — why exactly Messrs. Jenkins and Hastings have been retained to write opinion pieces for the Gruan, I don't quite know — the first half hour of broadcasting on Radio 4 was originally tailored by MI5 to fight communist influences on the working class. I should have guessed that this was the case. Nothing else could possibly explain the appallingly twee UK Theme...

And then he went and mentioned that he thought that the shipping forecast was written in St Kildan. Talk about shocking ignorance: it's reasonably common knowledge within meteorological circles that the shipping forecast is, in fact, written in Outer Qwghlm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qwghlm)...
