Hume and Rousseau
Apr. 29th, 2006 11:58 amToday's Guardian features an interesting extract from a book on the great falling out between Hume and Rousseau. I have to say, I feel a bit sorry for poor old JJ — the least Hume could have done was treat Rousseau's persecution complex with a certain amount of indulgence instead of slamming down on the guy.
Actually, the whole thing reminds me of a story about Philip K. Dick and his amphetamine fueled paranoia. This has it that PKD would be perfectly reasonable to visiting friends, only to call up the FBI and denounce them after their departure, something of which his friends remained unaware until after his death....
