Chewing the fat

sawylJust as I was heading out of the hotel in search of more bath bombs, I was cornered by Christian — in fact, he draped his arm over my shoulder like a mafia don — and invited me out to dinner. Actually, his exact words were, "How would you like to go out to a steak house?", to which I think I replied, "Jesus, Christian, I'm a veggie. You know this. And you're inviting me out for a steak?" Eventually we agreed that I'd go as long as I was able to eat a veggie option of some sort and as long as I agreed to deal with the rest of the gang chomping their way through large pieces of bovine carcase.
The evening was actually pretty fun — I wound Christian up for bringing all his baggage with him, telling him that next time, if he planned to run out on the restaurant bill, he could at least show enough subtlety not to bring everything he needed to swiftly leave the country with him — even though the menu was blatantly devoid of veggie fare. In the end, Maryanne and I ended up having ok-but-not-great vegetable platters while the rest of the gang munched through great slabs of charred flesh.
After Christian dashed off to catch his flight — he was rushing back to Germany for his father's 80th — I retired with the DMI gang to Maryanne's suite — yes, she has a suite with a really great view of downtown Toronto and the CN tower (I suspect that someone arranged it in an attempt to keep her quiet) — to bitch about what was wrong with the User Group and how to force various issues in the general assembly.
