Dinner at the Southgate
Jul. 25th, 2006 11:54 pmSurprisingly pleasant evening out with the Great and the Good — I leave it to my humble readership, to judge who falls into which category. We took dinner at the Southgate hotel, with Yours Truly opting for a tomato and fennel soup (adequate), linguine (pleasant enough, but blatantly spaghetti not linguine) and a chocolate parfait for dessert.
On the dress code front, I eventually wimped out of my shorts and T shirt wardrobe and opted for a trousers and shirt, albeit with sandals and a gothic black pedicure. This, it turns out, was the perfect choice: as we sat in the bar ahead of the dinner, our esteemed Japanese colleagues removed more and more of their business dress until they'd removed their ties and stripped to shirt sleeve. As I understand it, given cultural differences, this is the equivalent of wearing Speedos to the office...
