I remember going to a talk in the US by a guy who'd just moved from HNSX to Cray. He said that the Japanese had been very keen to shorten Super-UX to SUX but they just about been persuaded of the badness of it by the American contingent.
The windows shell blows. It's totally stuck in 1983.
When I had this problem, I ditched the dos shell, slapped on Windows emacs and used eshell. It implements most of the regular commands in lisp so you can still do ls and whatnot. While it's not perfect, at least it doesn't require a self inflicted lobotomy to use...
