I was amused to learn that, after attending an event at Glastonbury and becoming a vegetarian, Gerald Finzi wrote to George Bernard Shaw in order to ask him how to obtain animal free sandals. What a guy!

I've not heard of him, but thanks to the wonder of the Naxos Music Library (http://www.naxosmusiclibrary.com/), I am listening to his cello concerto.

I've been consistently impressed by the Naxos Finzi recordings. They've been dependably good and some of them, like Intimations of Immortally and the Thomas Hardy settings, are really standout great. How they manage to do it for a fiver a throw, I just don't know...
