Observance of the Rules

In something of a shocking breach of etiquette, one of the other early people said good morning to me — something he's never done before. I suppose there's no law against people being pleasant and in a good mood first thing in the morning but as far as I'm concerned, I want nothing more than an hour of solitude and silence to give myself time to prepare for the shock of the day, so I'd rather things returned to the usual Trappist silence, if that's quite alright with everyone else...

I wonder if the second movement of Mahler's 7th is ever going to lose it's association with Castrol engine oil. I love the idea of gloomy old Gustav being pitched to by some bright young 80s advertising wizard: "Hey, hey, Gus my man, we loved the first few bars of the allegro moderato from seven, I don't supposed you'd mind if we used it to accompany a short film of oil flowing round a few bits of metal would you? Go on, it'll be good publicity..."
