Remembrance and Militarism

Interest that various people, including Jon Snow, have come out as having mixed feelings about Remembrance Day poppies because I too have always felt slightly uneasy about it. Perhaps it's a hold-over from my right on, lefty childhood, when to wear a red poppy was completely taboo, but I've always been worried the close link between Remembrance and the endorsement of militarism, so it's reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one with concerns.
