Blood, water, money and all that

sawylMy mater has just let slip that my grandmother has decided to send cheques (and fairly substantial ones too) to all her grandchildren. All? Well, not quite. It seems she's not sending me anything.
Although, unlike some of my cousins, I don't need the money, I still feel slightly miffed by the whole experience. I think it's pretty poor that my grandmother didn't bother to mention it to me when we last spoke — in fact she said something about not giving presents to grown up members of the family, unless you were going to see them on Christmas day — and I only got to hear about it because my parents were worried that my sister might mention it.
I'm extremely tempted to write a letter to my grandmother, to tell her that I understand that she's in straightened financial circumstances, include a cheque for same amount as sent to my sister, and damn the expense. Fortunately or unfortunately, I don't seem to have my cheque book with me...

I see Christmas as a kind of family group therapy where all nevrosis
and psychosis can be fully expressed.
However I have decided this year to limit the seance to a maximum of 48
hours.
I have happily volonteered for user support/work from the office next week.

Date: 2006-12-22 07:15 pm (UTC)I doubt that would make much difference — she has yet to realise, despite the fact that my parents have been married for almost 40 years, that my mater gets upset if people draw attention to the chaotic and scruffy appearance of the house — so I think that it's pretty unlikely that she'd manage to pick anything up from my blog.
But, just in case, I haven't given her the URL...
