Guilty pleasures

Today's Graun asked a bunch of intellectuals to talk about their guilty pleasure, the thing that they do once they've finished being eggheads. Some of them were pretty amusing — who'd have thought that Antony Beever was a Blind Date fan or that Steve Jones has thing for looking at houses in estate agents — some were rather less convincing — I'm thinking of Christopher Hitchens and the Simpsons here — and one of them, Catherine MacKinnon, argued that she didn't have any guilty pleasures because she didn't believe that pleasures could be guilty. My favourite? Probably Roger Scruton's absurdly wonderful confession of his passion for Elvis which he concluded with the sentence, "...but there it is, appalling proof that, despite all my efforts, I am human."

My guilty pleasure? RPG computer games — I've lost years of my life to them. Now, if you'll excuse me, I still have a couple of Dark Aeons to defeat in Final Fantasy X...
