sawylBBC7 have just repeated Mitch Benn's superb prog rock spoof, Journey to the Centre of Rick Wakeman. The absurd plot is as follows:
The year is 2009 and the world's two great supernations, England and Wales, stand on the brink of war. Only one man can solve this crisis: Professor Sir Rick Wakeman. On his way to peace conference, Sir Rick eats a suspect Welsh rarebit and is cast in a coma by a rogue piece of Caerphilly lodged in his medula inventata. Fortunately, Prime Minister Titchmarsh has a solution and orders Brother Alfred to get the gang back to together.
Alfie finds Robin Ince babbling nostalgic rubbish and the girls working as a mock sapphic Dad's Army tribute band. Mitch has retreated to a cabin in Scotland to work on Dr Who, the rollerblading rock opera. Using a miniaturisation process, they enter the comatose body of Wakeman and try to dislodge the cheese. After surviving Robin's betrayal, Mitch manages to eat the remaining caerphilly, restoring Sir Rick to health just in time to turn the pending war into a love-in.
With ludicrousness like that, how can you do anything other than love it?
