Scurrilous political gossip
Mar. 10th, 2007 07:17 pmAn amusing story via Radio 4 about Lord Goldsmith: after paying to attend a dinner with Tony Blair, Goldsmith demanded that he should sit next to the prime minister and threatened not to attend if this did not happen. Helena Kennedy and Lord Falconer deferred to Goldsmith, allowing him to spend the entire evening schmoozing Blair, who he'd never met before. Was it worth it? Francis Wheen summed it up nicely, saying, "It obviously worked. Two years later he was a lord and attorney general. Job done." Heh.
