How to be a good host

After being delayed by a puncture, my mater arrived later than expected at my grandmother's house. Her mother-in-law having already eaten, mater settled down to a late supper only for her host to say, "Well, since you can't eat and talk at the same time, so I'm going to have a bath while you have supper.", before going to make good on her promise.

This absolutely typical of my grandmother. She's eccentric the the point of rudeness. And no, it's not an age thing — she's behaved in the same way for decades...
