Gray areas?
Jul. 15th, 2007 07:43 pmThe pronounced opinion of the Guardian on John Gray's Black Mass? "[A] limpidly argued and finely written synthesis of Gray's thinking over the decade or so since False Dawn" Does this make it worth buying, given the ludicrousness of Straw Dogs? Probably not, at 18 quid for a 250 page hardback.
Staw dogs - Dire
Date: 2007-07-26 10:47 am (UTC)It’s one of the few books that I’ve metaphorically ‘walked out on’. It’s crime isn’t so much what it says as it is the authors self conceit in not realising that what he’s saying is hardly new. It’s like being stuck at the bar listening to a maudlin middle aged man go on and on about his realization that Father Christmas doesn’t exist.
The fact that this book has received the praise that it has from people who, one would hope, would have a reasonably broad interpretation of the world makes things doubly depressing.
