The Sibelius anniversary

I dont know about anyone else, but it seems to me to be quite amazing that it's only fifty years — the anniversary is tomorrow — since the death Jean Sibelius. I know that he stopped composing in the mid 1920s and went on to be fairly ancient, but somehow he feels like he comes from a completely different era so the realisation that he only died in 1957 seems rather remarkable.

Apparently. Although I only know this because they've been trailing it super heavily on the radio for the last couple of weeks. It's not like I sit down every day with a Big Book of Death or anything macabre like that. Oh no. My macabre practices are much more, well, macabre than that...

I'm terribly fickle. I tend to listen to R3 in the evenings and, thank to listen again, R4 or BBC7 when I'm cooking etc. It's really nice to be able to finally catch up on all the good stuff that goes out on a weekday morning without having to come up with a reason as to why I need to work from home on Tuesday mornings...

i love listen again. luckily my present 'job' lets me listen to a lot of R4. I feel a bit lonely listening to R3.
