Elgar? Schmelgar!

This year is, apparently, the 150th anniversary of Elgar's birth. Bah. I can't say I'm much fussed on Elgar, although I will admit that the two concerti and, most especially, Sea Pictures are quite wonderful. On the other hand, I could cheerfully live out the rest of my life — and several others too, should reincarnation turn out to be possible — without hearing so much as a single note from The Dream of Gerontius ever again.
