What does it mean to be human?

Spent a fun day at a cross-disciplinary workshop at the university examining what it means to be human. All the talks were interesting, some more so than others, with Stephen Lea's thumbnail sketch of animal cognition studies a particular highlight. I also enjoyed Michael Hauskeller's talk on transhumanism, a field which I find perpetually fascinating, probably because it is the point at which a number of my interests — political, ethical, environmental, technological, literary — collide.

Definitely more exciting than spending the day slumped in front of my terminal, adding the last few touches to yet another script to paper over the gross inadequacies of others...
