Rattle's renewal in Berlin

It seems that although the Berlin Phil were happy to start travelling with Rattle when he become their principal conductor, now that they've spent six years on the road with him, some of the orchestra's members are starting to feel like they should be reaching their journey's end.
There are only two possible responses to this. Firstly, to point out that the idea of Hegelian progress towards an ultimate goal went out with the ark; secondly, to note that Rattle's objectors are obviously unfamiliar with British railway network, where journey times are frequently measured in years and, occasionally, decades...
