Exeter: the aftermath...

Following this afternoon's incident, the centre of town is a complete nightmare: Paris Street and Sidwell Street are closed; the bus station is closed; the swimming pool is closed; the shops seem to have closed early, judging by the vast army of people all trying to get home simultaneously; and National Express have given up taking people into town — my bus was packed full of people who'd been dumped at the park and ride. Thankfully, the police seem to have things under control, even if the traffic is still pretty snarled up.

I wouldn't worry. The bomber was so inept that they failed even to cause themselves anything more than "slight injuries". But to hear the people in the National Express coach party — the ones stranded at Honiton Rd and left to make their own way into town on the M2 — talk you'd have thought that a suicide bombing had happened, that police had been caught unawares and that Devon was completely defenceless in the face of an enemy onslaught...
