The Chrysalids on radio

I've just listened to the repeat of the 1981 dramatisation of The Chrysalids on BBC7, which I rather enjoyed. Although the performances were generally good, there was a moment I found rather amusing, when Sophie, having been exiled to the badlands as a mutant, comes out with a particularly cut-glass, "Leave me alone, damn you!", making it sound a bit like she's channelling Celia Johnson. Who knows, maybe that's her mutant power: in compensation for her extra toe, she's gained the ability to be cross in a terribly posh voice.
