AIX jumpstart: day 4
Oct. 23rd, 2008 09:04 pmKicked off with a short lab that involved change the amount of page space on the system, then moved on to the various methods available to backup file on the system. These included the boring pair of
After a slightly dull lab on backup and restore, we moved on to logging, analysis and IBM's slightly bizarre decision to use a token log to record system error events. Although the error logging system has a handful of nice features, it's doesn't really sound like it's likely to be of much use in a massively distributed environment. Finally, we finished the day with a brief romp through AIX's rather odd take on TCP/IP — the network parameters are stored in pseudo devices in one of the ODM files! — and, for extra credit, a quick look at some of the available diagnostic tools.
Since this means that we've managed to finish the course with a day in hand, the instructor has agreed to run through a couple of miscellaneous points tomorrow with a view to getting finished just after lunch. Which means I should be home early enough to catch up on my laundry and go swimming. Hurrah! Clean clothes, here I come!
