Finishing up for the holidays
Dec. 5th, 2008 02:20 pmI've had a busy morning, but I'm now confident that I've finished everything I need to finish before going away on Thursday, regardless a typically panicked reaction on my colleague's part when I notified them that I was going away. As though I wouldn't have planned my work so as to finish everything before going away — Hello! Professional here! — regardless of being messed around by ever changing, ever slipping schedules.
Which, I think, explains why I'm so bad at taking my holiday allowance. In general, I like to try to avoid causing fuss and hassle for others. So, if my requests for leave are treated like a BFD, I'm less likely to take it; and when I do, I'm likely to request a big chunk, rather than a series of smaller requests, simply because the process of making the arrangements is so bothersome.
Whatever, my work here is done. Or as done as it can be, what with others dragging their feet over things beyond my control. And if the foot dragging continues beyond Wednesday, I've written up enough to ensure that others are able to cover for me. Now all I have to do is avoid doing anything significant for the next few days and I'll be in the clear.
