Test riding a Brompton
Mar. 29th, 2009 07:10 pmIn an attempt to narrow down the sort of bicycle I'm after, I decided to take pater's Brompton out for a spin. The results were impressive: ride and handling were good and the bike was pretty nippy but I found that the speed maxed out pretty quickly, probably because pater, despite opting for six gears, had also selected lower range gearing.
But despite being seriously impressed, I don't think I'm going to buy one. Yes, it was a nice bike, but I'm not really sure that I want or need a bike that I can take on buses or trains. Plus, it costs the best part of 800 quid — enough to buy a pretty decent road bike.
