Extemporisation on monitoring

I knew that someone had invited me to a meeting this afternoon. But I hadn't appreciated what was going to be required of me. I'd assumed that it was going to be a small informal thing, just a couple of people informally discussing different pieces of monitoring software. Imagine, then, my surprising when I discovered that (a) the meeting was being held in one of the lecture theatres; (b) a whole load of people turned up and the room started to fill from the back; (c) after around two minutes of introduction, the whole thing was handed over to me and I ended up speaking for around half an hour without any real preparation.
Fortunately, the whole thing seemed to OK, but it was hardly the best way to round off the working week.
