One last heave...
Aug. 4th, 2009 09:22 pmToday, we brought the old HPC system back up for one final job. Sadly, the results were less than glorious.
When the power was reapplied all the support systems came up cleanly and so, surprisingly, did the file server albeit with half its HBAs missing. With the application of dark magic to the iSP we were able to cajole a failed PCI cage back into service and to bring the machine up with a complete set of peripherals. Not that this helped much: a handful of discs remained offline on both primary and secondary paths; this caused the system to panic a few minutes after each boot with a SCSI error; and thus, we were unable to extract any of the data we wanted from the system.
Not good.
