The food was good and very cheezy, in the best possible way, with a most impressive home-made fruit pie from Welsh's kitchen for pudding. The company was excellent, fun was had and, if some of us larks were flagging towards the end — I stayed long after my notoriously early usual bedtime — this was no-one's fault but our own and our circadian rhythms.
Best cultural clarification of the evening: the precise nature of the difference between mincemeat and minced meat.
Best moment of extreme chivalry: someone offered to take the dirty dishes home with them, so that they could do the washing-up for their hosts. Needless to say, this wasn't me.
